Ethical Tea Partnership

(ETP)

Strong Vend offers tea products that support the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), a non-commercial organisation that brings together many of the largest tea producers in a commitment to providing tea that is ethically sourced as well as providing fair conditions for workers on their estates.

teaETP members buy tea only from estates that are included in the initiative. The initiative covers more than 60 brands of tea sold across 40 countries.

teaETP is using independent monitors to check that conditions on tea estates meet or exceed local laws, trade union agreements and some international standards.

What has it achieved?

As of 2005, ETP had monitored just over half the estates supplying its members in seven tea-producing regions: North India, Indonesia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

It has improved conditions for tea workers and their families by:

ETP tea workers
  • providing free housing and medical care for their 80,000 dependents
  • funding 19 primary schools and four secondary schools.

ETP is also encouraging use of renewable energy sources (such as eucalyptus instead of coal) to dry tea and has planted 100,000 trees.

PG Tips & Rainforest Alliance

Sustainable Tea

  (PG Tips & Rainforest Alliance)

We at Strong Vend are partners with PG Tips and supply PG Tips products for our hot drinks machines.

PG Tips MonkeyPG Tips are working towards a more sustainable future for tea farming. This is because we have partnered up with the Rainforst Alliance, an international environment NGO (non-government organisation), to ensure that most of its tea comes from certified farms, which have ecosystem conservation programmes, protection of the workforce and surrounding environments, and better working conditions and pay for the farmers.

A Tale of Two Continents

Unilever (PG Tips' parent company) are also founding partners of the ETP (Ethical Tea Partnership). The members of this partnership (as mentioned above) believe in a shared responsibility for the social and ethical conditions involved in the sourcing of tea.

You could say that there's only one thing that PG Tips are as dedicated to as producing great-tasting tea, and that's making sure that as many people as possible involved in the growing and harvesting process of PG tips tea can work in conditions that benefit them, their families and their environment.

PG Tips are so dedicated in fact, that they have actually even launched their own Indiana Jones style mini-feature film comically illustrating their links with such ethical organisations entitled 'A Tale of Two Continents' which was displayed before main features in cinemas up and down the country. Watch the mini-feature below:
